Recent examples of how the generosity of
property owners is improving Wintergreen
The Wintergreen Community Foundation Scholarships Grants & Awards Committee is proud to support WPOA employees wanting to further their education while serving the Wintergreen community. The 2025 education scholarship recipients include Officer Joe Hatter, Deputy Chief Mike Riddle, Captain Nick Hamner, and Captain Jeremy Wampler. Joe completed Fire Fighter 1 and EMT certifications. In addition to working full-time with Wintergreen Police, he is now an active volunteer with Wintergreen Fire/Rescue. Nick received assistance towards his degree in Emergency Services Management. Mike recently completed his degree in Homeland Security. Jeremy is nearing completion of his degree in Fire Administration.

Founders Vision Overlook
The Wintergreen Community Foundation partnered with WPOA to renovate and enhance the Founders Vision Overlook in the Spring of 2025. This meaningful project was completed in June of 2025 and included enhancing the views, celebrating native landscapes, renovating the overlook structure, adding hardscape areas, improving & expanding the turf areas, greater accessibility, and more. WCF funded 50% of these meaningful upgrades. Additional details here.
Black Rock Park & the Plunge Hiking Trail
The Wintergreen Community Foundation (WCF) partnered with WPOA to restore and enhance Black Rock Park so as to improve accessibility for all owners and guests who visit and take in the magnificent view. The Plunge Hiking Trail was also improved to provide greater access to the rock outcroppings that have made this trail famous. WCF funded the full cost of the hardscape area pictured above and some of the accessibility enhancements.
Ravens Roost Park
The Wintergreen Community Foundation partnered with WPOA to improve accessibility and enhance the Ravens Roost Park. Phase 1 of these improvements were completed in the Summer of 2024. WCF funded 50% of these improvements.
Stone Orchard to Cedar Meadow connector
The Wintergreen Community Foundation partnered with WPOA to construct a new walking trail connecting Cedar Meadow and Stone Orchard (in red on the map). Completed in 2024, this new path greatly enhances the walkability and accessibility of the entire Stoney Creek hiking trail network with improved access to the Farmers Market and Nellysford businesses and services. WCF funded 50% of this new trail connector.
The Wintergreen Community Foundation recognizes the impact the valley walking trail network has on the quality of life for Wintergreen homeowners and guests. WCF is working with WPOA to identify future improvements to the valley trail network including adding additional trails and improving existing trails.
